Hi, I’m Geni. I’m the baker and mostly the crumby part of this blog. I have realized with this blog how much I enjoy writing, and that I have alot more to say about the world and my life than I originally banked on.
My twelve-year-old daughter, Zoie, is the sweet part. She is our head photographer and superb sous chef. My awesomely supportive husband is also part of the photography team and our resident tech geek. Baking is my solace, my fun and my passion. If I’ve had a bad day, I bake…if I’ve had a good day, I bake and anything in between, I bake. Bake sale at school, I’m there! Need cupcakes for a class party….from scratch of course… 3 dozen, why not?
After my kitchen is clean and sparkly and looks untouched….I see a blank canvas, and my husband sees a disaster waiting to happen. My kids, husband and dog reap the rewards of my baking though so there are not too many complaints about the revolving mess on my counters. The dog mostly gets the crumbs on the floor, but I haven’t heard her complain yet either. A chocoholic doesn’t even begin to touch the surface nor explain my love and devotion to that beautiful, dark, smooth wonderfulness that must enter my mouth daily. That’s it, no questions asked, I must have chocolate.
I also have a devotion to all things organic, natural and preferably local. Any recipe you see on this site, you can assume I have used ingredients which are organic if findable, economical and in my pantry at the moment. Organic vanilla, flour, sugar, butter and eggs are staples here and so are fresh organic fruits and veggies. We have just started a tiny organic garden on my patio in pots….we’ll see where that goes. I’m not a gardener at heart. Dirt and worms are not as much my thing as butter and sugar, but my desire for a constant source of organic ingredients inspires me to trudge on with it.
I truly appreciate you stopping by so leave me a comment, and let me know how the recipes work out for you. I hope you find your time is well spent here at Sweet and Crumby.
Sincerely,
Geni

Hi Geni,
I love your blog! I never read blogs but I LOVE yours! I found it because I was looking for a cupcake with three musketeers in it. Your recipe was the best homemade recipe I have ever made. I have tried so many cupcake recipes and they are never moist and delicious. The frosting recipe was amazing too!
Thank your posting on your blog. I really enjoy it.
Sincerely,
Nadine

HI Geni! I can’t find an email to contact you and the comment you left on my blog about the Olive Oil Cake doesn’t have any contact info either (no email in blogger profile). Anyway, I wanted to thank you for your kind comments and invite you to the Food Blogger Discussion List if you would like some other food bloggers to chat with, joke around with, share ideas, etc.

Hi Geni,
I am sending you a message because I thought that maybe you could help me…. My husband’s birthday is next week. (Feb. 15th) His favorite candy bar is Almond Joy. I was wondering if you have or know of a recipe for an Almond Joy cake. Something with chocolate, almonds and coconut?
If you know of a recipe, please send it my way.
Thanks!
~Nadine

Hi Geni! Thanks for your kind words on the whipping cream pound cake! I agree–we were definitely meant to be friends
I didn’t see an email for you on your homepage, so am leaving comment here. To answer your question on adding vanilla bean to cake…I split it open with a knife and scrape the seeds out and toss them into cake batter. It doesn’t look like alot, but once it’s mixed–you see lots of black flecks throughout….and the flavor … pure heaven! Happy Friday, Nina

Dear Geni, love your blog and your recipes. Would love to meet you as we seem to share lots in common – baking, organic food, gluten free cooking (my son is a coeliac) and solace and relaxation through cooking. I also have vege patch, but, living in Australia means it is pretty huge. Also means I doubt we’ll ever meet in person, but I hope to enjoy reading your posts and getting to know you more that way. Happy baking! Margaret
