Legendary Pumpkin Bread Pudding and My Favorite Gongoozler

First of all, you are probably now asking yourself two things…1)What makes THIS pumpkin bread pudding so extraordinary, and 2) What the HECK is a gongoozler? I will proceed to explain both if you are patient.

Creamy, Dreamy Mango Flan and History Making Latin Inspired Caesar Salad Dressing

It’s been awhile since I posted.  That happens.  Life happens. This flan is yum…especially with Kahlua generously poured over the top and finished with a dollop of whipped cream.  I have to warn you though, while the texture is perfection and the flavor creamy and sweet, I really didn’t taste the mango. Just thought I’d share that and be totally honest here.

If Han Solo Were a Doughnut…

Hi All— For those of you who have been loyal followers since last July, you are aware of a few re-posts.  I have been away basking in the Kauai sunshine, rain and ocean air with my family. Of course, eating was a huge part of my vacation, and I will be featuring some crazy amazing Island foods (Haupia Pie! —Coconut pudding, chocolate pudding and whipped cream on a Macadamia shortbread crust) that I have eaten over the last week and am determined to replicate so stay tuned…new posts are coming soon.

Sometimes, I wake up in the morning with a clear thought of what I am in the mood to make (and eat).  For example, one Sunday I woke up and thought, “I MUST make doughnuts.” And if you are going to bother with the the huge vat of oil, wait for the dough to rise and eat a ginormous amount of calories, then you may as well jump in with both feet and make Maple Glazed Doughnuts topped with Applewood Smoked Bacon crumbles.  Don’t you agree?

April Fool’s Faux Fries and A Chocolate Chipped, Orange Zested Pound Cake Ticket to Crazy Place

I can’t do anything normal, the obvious way, the “exactly according to the recipe” way.  Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn’t.  Today it worked; really, really worked.

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?  I am a fool for April Fool’s Day. We celebrate big time over here and we even have had an April Fool’s Day birthday party since my daughter, Zoie,  was born in early April (Sorry Grace, I believe you were the one who had the first piece of the mashed potato frosted meatloaf birthday “cake”). A Bowl of Comfort From Me to You—Banana Cream Pie Pudding

There are a lot of reasons I need comfort food at the moment, but at the very top of the list is the number of people still missing in Japan.  The live footage has been unforgettable, imprinted on my brain and inside my heart. If you would like to help the relief efforts in Japan: Text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 or click this link to donate online.

The Particular Happiness of Lemon Blueberry Bread Pudding

I guarantee that bread pudding is one of the simplest desserts you can make and this one is sure to impart its zesty, sunshine-y happiness onto anyone who digs in. It is comfort food at its finest and most elevated with a punch of lemon, plump blueberries mixed throughout and dotted with white chocolate chips for that extra creamy richness in every spoonful.

Have you ever eaten something that evokes strong emotion?  Perhaps your grandmother’s noodle Kugel or your mother’s potato pancakes?  Think back to your favorite foods; the ones you need in an emergency.  Notice I said need, not want.  The ones that once the aroma is permeating the room, you are transported to a time, place or event.

Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies—My Kind of Comfort Food

I need comfort food.  Now. Tout de suite! What says comfort food better than the beautiful marriage of chocolate and peanut butter in a nice hefty, rich brownie?!

I just dropped my son off at the airport, and he is going to visit his cousins in another state.  He’s sixteen; he’s old enough to travel alone, but am I going to survive the agony of the next four hours waiting for his text to tell me that he has arrived safe and sound? Continue reading

Pear Fritters Have Sunk My Battleship

I know this must come as a great shock to you, but pear fritters are not the answer to your diet dilemma.  They are made with whole milk, deep fried and then rolled in sugar.  Does that not scream diet food?  In all seriousness though, these fritters are some heavenly cross between funnel cake from the fair (c’mon you know you love it), and a deliciously airy homemade doughnut.  These particular fried delights are elevated a touch as they are full of gingered pears and have a touch of lemon zest.

Max Brenner’s Chocolate Pizza

Eating at Max Brenner, NY, with my hubby made all of his chocolate fantasies come true (let’s hope!).  Chocolate, marshmallows and pizza, an unlikely combo, all oozing and melting as it makes its way into your mouth was his idea of Nirvana.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it as well.  I am the true chocoholic of our family, but for me decadence is the deepest, darkest chocolate only to be outdone by a scoop of crunchy nuts (preferably almonds or hazelnuts)… and maybe a hint of cointreau.   He even photographed the pizza and texted it to numerous friends bragging about his bounty.

First of all, you are probably now asking yourself two things…1)What makes THIS pumpkin bread pudding so extraordinary?and 2) What the HECK is a gongoozler? I will proceed to explain both if you are patient.

Oh how I wish I could transport that nice little casserole dish to you so you could slowly chew the spongy, luscious pumpkin bread pudding permeated with ginger and cinnamon-y goodness.   I would even pour you a cup of coffee while I state my case.  Then my case would be self-evident, and you and I could just sit back and enjoy the ride.
