New Year’s Eve Apps and Desserts to Knock Your Socks Off

I guess my New Year’s resolution could be to blog more, write fresh posts and become the next latest and greatest thing on the blogosphere, but that’s just not gonna happen. I am totally a blog when I feel like it kind of girl and lately I just haven’t felt it. I’m sure I’ll get in the mood sometime soon…but until then, I have a New Year’s Eve or Day Round Up, if you need some ideas.

These little tartlets are filled with brie, a sauteed apple compote and a touch of honey. They are the world’s easiest and fastest eaten appetizer, and you can choose to make them with the slummin’ it Crescent Roll dough or fancy it up a bit with pie crust (frozen or homemade)…either way, it is a guaranteed HIT!

Cookies, Cookies, Cookies!

As my blog has remained frozen on the last post since just after Thanksgiving, I have been a baking fiend. But, unfortunately for this blog, I have not been baking many new items to post. I have been baking my favorites and distributing my very famous, or not-so-famous cookie baskets to friends and family which include: Katina’s Greek Cresecent Cookies, Finnish Ribbon Cookies, Ginger Crinkles, Orange and Rosemary Infused Chocolate Chip Cookies,  Peppermint Death by Chocolate Cookies, Peanut Butter Blossoms and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles.

Leftover Cranberry Sauce Streusel Topped Muffins

I hate to be alone in the mornings. It’s boring. When I was a little girl, and wanted my brother to wake up and get crackin’ so that we could play a game or watch Saturday cartoons together, I would throw a couple of dog biscuits onto his bed and our two Cocker Spaniels would jump on top of him and run all over the bed looking for the treats. When he would emerge from his room, I would be sitting on the couch, pretending to look uninterested in his arrival, and  I would try not to smile. Unfortunately, I have the worst Poker face known to man. The worst.

A Thanksgiving Round-Up

Hi All,

I am so very grateful. My family is healthy, I live in a country where I have a multitude of freedoms, and I, and those that I love, are safe, well fed, have a roof over our heads and have little to truly worry about. My hope would be that people everywhere could experience these things and as tomorrow approaches, I do know how very lucky I am and have so much to be thankful for.

Here are some recipes from posts past that might fit the bill for tomorrow.

Peace and love…Geni

Of course, Plain and Simple Pumpkin pie

A Tunnel of Fudge Cake Happy Birthday Toast to My Dad

I was sixteen and running late for my first date with a boy whom I really liked and I made the cataclysmic mistake of telling my dad to “entertain” him for a few minutes. After I sprayed my last bit of Aqua Net onto my two inch high bangs, glossed over my lips and slipped on my “pumps”, I walked into our family room to find my dad, six foot three inches tall, and my date tap dancing on our wood floors while my dad whistled and sang, “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

A Sweet Escape {Pumpkin Mousse and Ginger Snap w/Bourbon Parfaits}

Escapism. Everyone needs it now and then. A time and place to let go of what’s on your mind and just be in the moment. For a lot of people, it’s running…that feeling of being “in the zone”, for others it’s a hot bath and wine.  For me it’s baking. And when Friday rolled around, I knew I needed to get cooking so I broke out a can of  pumpkin puree and began my escape.

Ham and Cheese Waffles {AKA the One Cup o’ Butter Wonder Waffles}

Being yourself. When does one remember getting to be fully themselves as a teenager, without any concern for status or appearances? But when my daughter, Zoie and her cousins, Lindsey and Emme are together, that is what they get to be…themselves. When I am around them, I feel happier like life is how it should be; with endless chatter, giggles and complete and utter honesty. It’s quite beautiful.

Pumpkin Pancakes—A Great Excuse to Eat Dessert First

Breakfast is the best meal of the day as far as I am concerned.  For a sweet toothed baker like myself it is an excuse to rightfully eat dessert as a meal. Pumpkin pancakes are no exception.
